Spoken Word by Ola Ovito
Ola Ovito is a Toronto-based artist whose work spans poetry, music, writing, dance and film. Ola studied under acclaimed Canadian poet Andrea Thompson at the University of Toronto, and takes inspiration from local musicians and poets in the Toronto Poetry Slam community, trading voice notes with friends and family, and in the varied sounds and interactions the city has to offer. She has performed in Canada and Tanzania, where she previously worked for the Canadian Foreign Service. Ola is also a dancer in styles including ballet, Afrobeats and Jamaican Dancehall, and executively produced a VR film, KARIAKOO in 2019. She has written for publications including Dance Current and Verge Magazine, and is developing her first Spoken Word EP through the LOUD Artist Development Program supported by the Ryerson University Music Den, for release in 2020.
