POETRY

My First Sonnet

by Rochelle Shaposhnick

Writing sonnets is an imposition.
The type of poem that does not sit well
In my mind, creating indecision;
a rocky start like this is just a tell.

What is it about this sort of poem,
that has so many writing of its style?
I can’t tell you why I find it ho-hum,
but hoping here to get a little smile.

Maybe sometime soon I will agree
that all these structured rhymes are quite the thing.
However til that time comes we shall see
if I can write a sonnet like I sing:

A little off key with plenty of verve,
and always having fun with all the words.
