POETRY

Woodswalk Mourning

by A.L.A. Covington

molded by death’s approach,
two branches linger

the larger sprouts strong from trunk’s remains,
then dives down to rest on its mate

rotting on the ground
bearing their weight

easing the journey
from sky to earth

I pause but
no solace comes

loss too beautiful to believe
